Leading RR Auction’s December Fine Autographs & Artifacts sale are around 40 signed portraits of Albert Einstein including etchings, lithographs, letters, and photographs.
One of the highlights is a limited-edition etching of Einstein by Jewish artist Hermann Struck, one of the most influential etchers of his era, creating some of the earliest images of Einstein. Included in the sale are a left-facing portrait signed by both and a rare 1920 etching bearing a 'Per aspera ad astra' inscription.
Other highlights from the auction include:
- two portraits of Einstein by Lou Albert-Lasard (an oversized profile and a front-facing likeness) produced while working from life during sitting sessions with Einstein in April 1922
- Einstein's one-page Nazi Germany denaturalization document in German dated March 24, 1934
- an April 17, 1922 autograph letter signed by Einstein to Baron Edmond de Rothschild thanking him for financial help: "You handed me a small leather briefcase in the hallway, the contents of which mean something precious to me: liberation and independence."
Online bidding for the auction closes December 10.
